Farm Spotlight

One Acre Farm

34 acres in Montgomery County's Agricultural Reserve, growing organic-minded vegetables for the local community since 2006.

A community-rooted farm

Farmer Mike started One Acre Farm in 2006 because he wanted to create a community where people can feel an association with the farm, farmers, crops, and vegetables they serve their family. Despite its name, One Acre Farm sits on 34 acres in Montgomery County's Agricultural Reserve, though it did originate on a much smaller plot in 2006, when Farmer Mike was just starting out.

Though we aren't certified organic, we use all organic growing principles while growing your veggies. Being organic-minded is about making sure the vegetables you eat are free of chemicals you don't want to consume, but also about ensuring a sustainable environment for the rest of the ecosystem we touch — from the animals, insects, water, and land.

We build healthy soil by adding compost and planting cover crops when fields are resting from crop production. This captures nutrients and stores them in the soil for the next growing season. We conserve water through our use of drip irrigation, which adds water directly to the soil to minimize runoff, evaporation, and overwatering.

Farmer Mike

Founder

Farmer Mike

During his senior year of college, Farmer Mike was looking for something constructive to do. He decided to volunteer at a local farm and loved it. After pursuing a career in film for a few years, the land kept calling to him. He worked at another farm for a couple years and then bought land to start One Acre Farm! The farm has since moved to its current location and grown to 35 acres on which we grow on 6–8 acres each year.
